Allegations of sex crimes can have a significant impact on a person’s life, and the unfortunate fact is that such accusations can severely tarnish a person’s reputation, regardless of their guilt or innocence. Anyone facing allegations of sexually related misconduct should consult with and retain an experienced sex crimes attorney as soon as possible. A Portland lawyer who knows how to handle sex crimes cases can help minimize any long term impact on a person’s life and also help to protect a person’s reputation within the community.

According to a report by KPTV, a man was taken into custody by United States Marshals recently in Oregon City for outstanding warrants from Las Vegas. The warrants were issued for a probation violation, but the man also failed to register in Oregon as a sex offender, as required by law.

Under Oregon law, people who are convicted of sex crimes may be required to register with the state as sex offenders. A partial list of the crimes Oregon classifies as “sex crimes” includes:

  • Rape
  • Sodomy
  • Unlawful sexual penetration
  • Sexual abuse
  • Incent
  • Child pornography
  • Encouraging sexual abuse of a child
  • Transporting child pornography into the state
  • Paying to view a child’s sexually explicit conduct
  • Compelling prostitution

  • Promoting prostitution
  • Kidnapping, in certain circumstances
  • Contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor
  • Sexual misconduct if the offender is at least 18
  • Sexual assault of an animal
  • Any attempted sex crime
  • Burglary, if committed with the intent to commit a sex crime
  • Public or private indecency, if the person has been convicted of another sex crime
